Armed officers surrounded the bank in Lisbon, Portugal, after two raiders struck earlier today.
After a tense stand-off two of the hostages inside the bank made a dash for freedom and escaped, spooking their captors.
One of the robbers, wearing dark glasses, emerges from the bank holding a robber around the neck and pointing a handgun, in the botched Lisbon robbery
The second man emerges from the bank with another hostage, unaware police are about to open fire
Aftermath: Police in riot gear swarm around the entrance to the bank, where one robber lies dead and the other is injured
The pair then attempted to leave the bank, each clutching a hostage and pointing their weapons at police gathered outside.
But snipers opened fire, killing one of the robbers and injuring the other.
The injured robber was taken to hospital following the drama, which was captured by Portuguese television cameras.
