Chief Superintendent Colin Terry has been sent home from his secondment at a police college in Kabul after he dressed up as Bin Laden at the Grampound carnival in Cornwall five days before the anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks in America.
He will return to the Devon and Cornwall force, where he faces suspension and a disciplinary inquiry.
Fired: Chief Superintendent Colin Terry dressed up as Bin Laden just days before the seventh anniversary of 9/11
A police source said: ‘The Foreign Office have told him they cannot protect him now that he is so high-profile. He is likely to be suspended straight away.
‘The force do not see the funny side of what he did and he is facing the sack for bringing it into disrepute. It doesn’t look good for him.’
A police spokeswoman said: ‘No decision on disciplinary action has been taken.’
