Police plea over death of cyclist

A cyclist was killed by a four-by-four as it swerved between lanes on one of London's busiest roads.

Thomas Sippel-Dau, a university computer technician, was left to die on Cromwell Road in a hit-and-run police described as "brutal".

Today officers appealed for help tracing the driver of the dark-coloured car from other vehicles and pedestrians in the area at the time. The collision happened at 10.20pm on 11 March near the junction with Earl's Court Road.

Colleagues of Mr Sippel-Dau, who had worked at Imperial College for 25 years, paid tribute to him.

Arthur Spirling, head of IT services, praised "his deep and wide-ranging knowledge," adding: "He seemed to have a particular affinity with our students and his patient and calm approach endeared him to many".

Contact police on 0207 259 0324, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
