Police probe death plunge by father-of-six from third floor of Pakistan High Commission

An investigation was under way after a senior defence official plunged to his death from the window of the Pakistan High Commission in central London.

Father-of-six Munir Ahmed, 47, died in a fall from the third floor of the consulate office in Knightsbridge on Friday afternoon.

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance went to Lowndes Square shortly after 3pm but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed he was only posted to the High Commission six months ago after leaving behind his wife and children in the Punjab province.

Mr Ahmed's death has sparked a police investigation into the circumstances.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the death was not officially being treated as suspicious but reports from at least one witness seemed to suggest the death did not appear to be suicide.

Initial reports suggested that Mr Ahmed, who worked in the naval defence section, leapt from a lavatory window. But Stephen Thompson, who works in an office opposite the Consulate, queried this theory.

Mr Thompson, 32, said: 'It appeared that he was falling backwards and he landed on a slate roof. If he wanted to jump to his death from that window he could easily have cleared the roof.'
