Police ram kidnap gang people carrier off road

Undercover police rammed a people carrier off the road as they pursued an alleged kidnap gang in north London.

But in the chaos, the kidnapped man fled the Chrysler after the crash, fearing for his life. Officers are still searching for him after the collision at 3pm yesterday near the junction of Golders Green Road and the A406.

An eyewitness said: "The police car shunted the people carrier. At the point of impact a man fell from the vehicle but instead of going over to the police to thank them for rescuing him, he ran off.

"One of the officers chased him for a little bit but then ran back to help his colleagues."

Officers are believed to have found a holdall full of guns in the rammed vehicle.

Police also raided an address - thought to have been used as a hideout - in Warwick Road, Ealing at the same time as the car swoop.

Two men were arrested, one of them in Ealing, on suspicion of kidnap and drugs offences. They were being interviewed at a north London police station by detectives from Scotland Yard's specialist operations unit.
