Police search for head of decapitated 'mummy' corpse found in shopping trolley

The headless body of a man was found wrapped in blankets and dumped in a supermarket storage cage yesterday.

The corpse, rolled up in blankets or a duvet and bound with duct tape, was discovered by a bin man who spotted an arm sticking out of the cage as he collected rubbish sacks.

Detectives were today still searching for the man's head and were due to start scrutinising CCTV footage from nearby shops.

Forensics investigators scour the scene in Kilburn, North-West London, for evidence

A murder investigation was launched following the grisly find, near rubbish bins, at 7.10am in Kilburn, North-West London.

The body was covered by a tent as forensics investigators carried out a fingertip search in the hunt for clues to the killer's identity.

Detectives are also hunting for a murder weapon.

The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Jessica Wadsworth.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said a post-mortem investigation is due to be carried out today at St Pancras Mortuary and an inquest will be scheduled in due course.

The body was discovered yesterday in this narrow street in Kilburn

Local resident Homayon Mahgerefteh, 50, said there had been several killings in the area in recent years.

"This is, I think, the fifth person killed in this area in the last four years," he said.

"It's not a safe area. A boy was killed on a balcony quite nearby recently.

"They should put up security cameras so that they can catch people like this."
