Police shoot man in gang raid

A MAN was shot by police early today during a raid on a suspected armed robbery gang in north London.

He is in a serious condition in hospital but is expected to live.

The shooting took place during a planned operation in Green Lanes, Haringey, involving detectives from the Operation Trident squad, which tackles black-on-black gun crime in London.

Five men were arrested during the raids which were supported by specialist CO19 firearm officers.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said that the man was shot at 12.15am. The five arrested men were being questioned over allegations of conspiracy to rob.
