Radcliffe to run London Marathon in build-up for Beijing

Paula Radcliffe will run the Flora London Marathon on 13 April as part of her preparations for an assault on the Beijing Olympics in August.

It was thought the 34-year-old would miss this year's London event in an attempt to minimise the risk of injury before the summer.

Radcliffe is desperate to bury the nightmare of her Olympic run in Athens four years ago, when she failed to finish the race as she fell victim to illness.

The Briton returned to winning ways in New York last November - her first marathon since giving birth to her daughter, Isla, 10 months previously - but she has not run in London since 2005, when she won the race after taking her now infamous mid-race lavatory break.

Four months after that victory Radcliffe won her first gold medal at the World Championships when she triumphed in the marathon in Helsinki, and she will now have the same recovery time before racing in China.

Organisers anticipate this year's London race - the 28th - will again attract a field of 40,000 competitors.
