Railway boss offers Euro tickets to get T5 bags back

A businessman who lost his suitcases in the chaos at Heathrow's Terminal Five is offering a free holiday on Eurostar to anyone who finds it.

Michael Birtles, managing director of European Rail Ltd, is offering a pair of return tickets to Paris.

His bags went missing on the disastrous opening day of Heathrow's new terminal when the high-tech baggage handling system went down.

He was travelling to Milan on flight BA576 for a trade conference in Aosta. After the captain twice told them their flight was delayed for loading luggage, his bag was nowhere to be seen when he arrived at the Italian airport.

Mr Birtles, who runs the Londonbased continental rail travel firm, reported his luggage missing and instructed for it to be sent to his hotel in Switzerland. But two weeks on, his bags are still missing.

In desperation, he is offering the standard-class train tickets, worth £300. He said: "BA don't have a clue where my bag is, or seem to care. The opening day of Terminal Five was greeted with much fanfare as the dawning of a new age of air travel from Heathrow.

"Unfortunately, as some baggage handlers could not get into the car park, only a select few were reunited with their bags at Milan. The rest of us had to queue up to two hours to report the loss of our luggage.

Those hunting the bags have until Friday to claim. Mr Birtles said: "The BA reference is MXPBA25168. You can email michael@europeanrail.com."
