Revamp will return Savoy to hotel elite, says owner Prince Alwaleed

The billionaire Arab prince who owns the Savoy hotel described its £220million restoration as "a gift to the British monarchy and the British people" at its official re-opening last night.

Prince Alwaleed, whose company Kingdom Holding owns 50 per cent of the hotel, said the three-year overhaul would restore it to the world's hotel elite "for the next 50 years".

Prince Charles, who unveiled a plaque, said he was delighted with the "craftsmanship".
