Richmond Park voted top picnic site again

11 June 2008
It beat off competition from Hyde Park in second place and Hampstead Heath in third to be named regional winner of the Picnic Awards 2008.
The park will now compete with nine other popular picnic sites from across Britain, including Alnwick Garden in Northumberland and Holkham beach, Norfolk.
Jane Sutton of bakery firm Warburtons, which runs the awards, said: "Richmond Park is obviously a favourite for Londoners as it has been voted the London winner for the second year running, a real coup. Everyone looks for something different from their perfect picnic spot and with free roaming deer, stunning views over London and plenty of open space, it has what it takes to stand out from the rest."
At almost 2,500 acres, Richmond Park is the largest of London's eight Royal Parks.
To vote for it in the final, visit www.welovebread.co.uk before the closing date of 27 June.
The other London picnic spots nominated were (in order): Greenwich Park; Primrose Hill; Docklands; Horniman Museum and Gardens; South Bank; Postman's Park and Somerset House.
