Rush hour Tube hit by signal and power failures
24 January 2012
Tens of thousands of Tube and Docklands Light Railway commuters faced major disruption today due to a combination of signal and power failures.
Northern line users were worst hit with a major part of the service suspended southbound between Moorgate and Morden via Bank due to a power failure at Kennington.
This caused delays to other parts of the line, one of the busiest on the network and used by more than 650,000 passengers a day.
The Circle and Hammersmith & City line services also suffered severe delays during the build-up to the morning peak due to a signal failure at Baker Street.
There was major disruption to DLR services between Bank and Lewisham because of a signal failure at Canary Wharf. Further delays occurred between Canary Wharf and Stratford.
A broken down mainline train caused delays of up to 45 minutes for Southeastern commuters heading into Cannon Street and Charing Cross.
The train broke down at Plumstead hitting packed services between Gillingham and London. Some trains were diverted via Bexleyheath or Sidcup.
Delays lasted for most of the morning peak.
