Samba champions join Latin carnival line-up

The world's most famous samba school is coming to London for the capital's annual Latin American Carnival.

Twelve drummers from Bateria da Mangueira, which has won the Rio de Janeiro Carnival 17 times, will be performing at the event in south London this Sunday. They will be flanked by Brazilian dancers in exotic costumes.

The Carnaval del Pueblo, in its 10th year, will start at midday with a lively and colourful procession from Elephant and Castle to Burgess Park, via Walworth Road, Camberwell Road and Albany Road.

At the park, live acts will entertain carnival-goers from 10am to 10pm at the International Stage, Andean and Brazilian zones. They include a tango show, a new Mexican acrobatic dance and a salsa workshop, as well as a bull-riding attraction and a children's zone.

The event, celebrating music, dance and culture from 19 countries, is free.
