Security breached again as intruders get into Highgrove

Security has been breached at the Prince of Wales' Highgrove estate for the second time this year, police said today.

Two people are believed to have entered the royal estate near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The intruders triggered alarms resulting in police helicopters being scrambled and sniffer dogs released to comb the grounds of the 347-acre estate.

Despite an extensive search, the two intruders could not be traced.

Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were in Scotland at the time of the break-in, a source said.

Gloucestershire Police spokesman Matt Ford said: "Police responded to ensure that the security measures were not breached and at no time was security compromised.

"A search was conducted of the grounds but no one was found and no arrests have been made.

"A number of lines of inquiry are being followed up."

Monday's break-in is the second time this year that security has been breached at the Highgrove estate.

On January 30, a 55-year-old man was caught in the estate grounds allegedly carrying a pitchfork.

Desmond Kellaway, from Bristol, was arrested on suspicion of trespass and is currently bailed until June 7.
