Security breach: Intruders were able to get into Highgrove
Despite an extensive search, the two intruders could not be traced.
Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were in Scotland at the time of the break-in, a source said.
Gloucestershire Police spokesman Matt Ford said: "Police responded to ensure that the security measures were not breached and at no time was security compromised.
"A search was conducted of the grounds but no one was found and no arrests have been made.
"A number of lines of inquiry are being followed up."
Monday's break-in is the second time this year that security has been breached at the Highgrove estate.
On January 30, a 55-year-old man was caught in the estate grounds allegedly carrying a pitchfork.
Desmond Kellaway, from Bristol, was arrested on suspicion of trespass and is currently bailed until June 7.
