Husband and wife Kelly Lau Schumacher, 30, and Michael Schumacher, 34, face torture kidnapping and child abuse charges after they were held in Tracy, near San Francisco, yesterday.
The boy, 17, walked into a gym in the town that afternoon wearing only boxer shorts and covered in what appeared to be soot. Manager of Shape Sports Club Chick Ellis, said the boy had cuts on his back and asked to be hidden. "He said 'don't let them get me, don't let them get me,"' Mr Ellis said, "He was totally terrified."
The manager added that the teenager told him he was picked up after running away from the foster home to look for his family. The teen said he was held for almost a year, according to Ellis.
A police spokesman said further evidence implicating the couple had been found at their home in the town.
