A British soldier who kept a loaded pistol in his room at a barracks in Germany has been jailed for more than five-and-a-half years and kicked out of the Army.
Military police discovered the firearm in a wardrobe in August last year.
They had previously found cocaine in the trouser pocket of Fusilier Martin Luther Henry, 26, of 1 Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
A pistol, which had been converted from a blank-firing gun, was found in a coat in the wardrobe of Fusilier Martin Luther Henry, 26
The 9mm light model semi-automatic pistol had five rounds in the magazine and was 'readily accessible' in a coat and not hidden away, a court-martial in Germany was told.
It was a blank-firing gun which had been converted into a potentially deadly weapon.
Henry had been given it three months earlier by a comrade.
Judge Advocate Colin Burn said he was 'concerned' that the fusilier had kept the gun instead of disposing of it properly.
Henry admitted drug possession and keeping a prohibited weapon.
