Nisha Nasri Patel was barefoot in her pyjamas getting ready for bed when her murderer, allegedly under instruction from Fadi Nasri, let himself in through the front door, the Old Bailey was told.
Hearing a noise, the 29-year-old grabbed a foot-long torch to defend herself and went downstairs.
Neighbours heard her scream "Help, help, he's following me" as she ran outside to get away.
The killer stabbed her in the groin, severing a major artery.
She staggered up the road leaving a trail of bloody footprints and then back to her house, where she collapsed in a pool of blood.
The court heard that businessman Nasri, 34, may also have provided his wife's attacker with the murder weapon - which was taken from her kitchen.

The couple smile broadly on their wedding day but Nisha apparently told a friend shortly before her murder that she was considering getting a divorce
Witnesses saw a big, stocky black man, who the Crown says was 36-year-old nightclub doorman Jason Jones, wearing a hooded top running away from the scene.
Nasri allegedly arranged the killing so he could claim £350,000 from Nisha's life insurance policy to clear heavy debts.
He is accused of using drug dealer Roger Leslie, 38, as a go-between to arrange the murder.
Leslie allegedly instructed a third man, Tony Emmanuel, 42, to drive Jones to the house to carry out the attack.
All four deny murder. The trial continues.
