The offending picture

The unfortunate photograph was one of 11 adverts plastered on buses in the county but the PR stunt has generated all the wrong coverage.

A spokeswoman for the force said the mistake was realised when a police officer - not believed to be Rob - saw how photograph took on a new slant when it was superimposed on the doubledecker in Farnborough.

She said: "It was put right straight away. The exhaust was painted and the people were moved."

However, the original photograph has become an internet hit and it was even featured on the hit BBC show Top Gear.

A comment on one website read: "Ooeer missus, must have been a cold day."

Oh well, they say any publicity is good publicity ...
