Manhunt: Police scour the area
A source said: "Officers will want to establish early on whether it was one of these men who was responsible for the shooting.
"They were both arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and attempted murder. Officers will be anxious to ascertain whether they have the right men and whether there was a getaway driver or anyone else involved in the plot to rob the pub of its Christmas takings."
PC Johnson was discharged from hospital and spent New Year's Eve recovering at home with her family and long-term partner.
She joined the force six years ago and recently transferred to become a dog-handler.
She had confronted the armed man in the backyard of the pub after responding to a 999 call early on Monday morning.
Police have released details of two cars that were near the scene - a Vauxhall Vectra, with the registration N396 RHO, which was parked in the Hospital Inn car park, and a silver Peugeot 406, V778 HOL, which was parked close to shops nearby.
