'Suspend C-charge in flood blackspot'

A call was made today to suspend the congestion charge over a swathe of the capital while work is done to fix a burst water main on a major route.

Since the weekend roadworks have forced thousands of drivers off Edgware Road. The route gives drivers free passage through the congestion zone but now they are being diverted on to roads covered by the £8 charge.

Murad Qureshi, a Labour member of the London Assembly, said: "Transport for London should suspend the charge in this area."

TfL said it was deleting camera images of vehicles on the "most logical" alternative routes drivers would take.

It urged drivers to leave the charging zone "as soon as possible by the nearest available exit".
