SWT passengers face threat of four-day rail strike

Hundreds of thousands of rail commuters using South West Trains into Waterloo face four days of strike action.

The Stagecoach-owned company warned of "severe disruption". Train drivers' union Aslef has ordered stoppages to take place on Monday 31 March, Tuesday 1 April, Wednesday 2 April and Thursday 3 April in an escalating row over pay.

More than 350,000 passengers a day use SWT with 200,000 of those travelling into London. Stagecoach-owned SWT forecasts only a "limited" service will run on strike days with many trains replaced by buses.

SWT managing director Stewart Palmer said he regretted the disruption to passengers and was trying to avert the strikes.
