Tarrant gets police caution for common assault over cutlery incident

Yesterday he insisted the incident at Nottingham's MemSaab restaurant earlier this month was simply "horseplay" after a night of increasingly irritating heckling by the man.
Speaking after he learned of his fate at a Nottingham police station, Tarrant said: "I'm glad no charge has been brought and I can now put this over-inflated affair behind me.
"I'm very pleased the police have handled the matter so efficiently, recognising there was never any malice on my part, just a bit of amiable horseplay."
Electrician John Trussler, 36, claimed he was left with a cut on his arm after Tarrant, 60, hurled a knife at him.
But the TV presenter claimed to have only playfully lobbed a "spoon, or a fork, or napkin".
It is understood that police decided to offer a caution to settle the matter after tests by Home Office pathologists on the alleged victim's wound raised doubts about whether it was consistent with being hit by cutlery.
The caution will remain on Tarrant's record for two years.
"If Chris gets involved in another such situation in the next two years the caution will be taken into consideration – but that certainly doesn't appear too likely," a friend said last night.
