Taylor: I fear the sack at Palace

Peter Taylor fears he is on the verge of the sack today after revealing he isn't on speaking terms with Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan.

Last night's 1-1 draw with Coventry City stretched Palace's winless run to six games and also gave rival boss Iain Dowie the last laugh on his return to Selhurst Park.

Dowie was booed by the home fans as he was escorted by security guards to his dug-out before kick-off, but it was Taylor who felt the wrath of the crowd at full-time.

The former Leicester manager has been in charge for only 15 months but is worried Jordan is losing patience, particularly with Neil Warnock constantly linked with the job.

He said: "I'm not confident I will be given the time to turn it around. I haven't spoken to Simon and, of course, you read he has had regular contact with Neil Warnock and that's not nice to see.

"I haven't spoken to him recently and won't before we play Sheffield United on Saturday.

"I want to be successful and to get over this hurdle. This is a test, but I think I'm up to the challenge. I was disappointed with the booing because our performance was a good one."

But the performance is unlikely to be good enough for Jordan, who wanted a win over his former boss to follow that of his victory in the courtroom three months ago. Dowie was found guilty of fraudulent misrepresentation to get out of his Palace contract last year, although he has since been granted an appeal. Jordan ridiculed Dowie's time in charge in the lead up to the match but the manager believes he will live to regret it.

He said: "Simon's critical but maybe when people look back on my time at the club, they will realise it was a decent period. I've yet to read a piece in the paper where Simon's not battering people. I don't miss him."

Stuart Green had put the home side in front on 26 minutes only for Leon Best to make the most of comical defending to score late on.
