Google sets up Campus for tech entrepreneurs

Google has ambitious plans for an "internet university" to help online entrepreneurs in the East End.

The firm will today unveil plans for a seven-storey building in Shoreditch, near Silicon Roundabout.

Called Campus, it will offer desk space to those hoping to produce the next Facebook or Google. The firm says it wants to create an "entrepreneur community" in the building.

The venture at 4-5 Bonhill Street will feature open plan office spaces where firms can rent desks, meeting rooms and event spaces. Google will give advice to firms and hold talks by successful international entrepreneurs.

Floor plans show space for more than 100 desks as well as lockers, booths for working on sensitive projects and a cinema area for presentations.

The project has been developed with some of London's existing tech firms, including Tech Hub, Seed Camp, Springboard and Central Working.
Google said the push to create a "Tech City" in the East End was a catalyst.

"Tech City is already home to hundreds of world-leading developers, entrepreneurs and ideas," Google said. "Campus's goal is to fuel the success of the UK start-up community."

Chancellor George Osborne welcomed the "great news", saying the initiative "shows Britain is open for hi-tech business".
