A teenager was stabbed three times after telling off a gang making noise outside his girlfriend's house.
The victim, aged 19, was with his girlfriend at her home in a quiet residential street in Blackpool, Lancs, when they were disturbed by the gang around midnight on Saturday.
The man, who works as a glazier, went outside to tell the group of around eight men and women in their 20s, to stop making noise.
The stabbing is the latest incident of crimes among teenagers in Britain
A row followed and a fight broke out, and the victim was stabbed with a sharp instrument. Police have not yet found the weapon and can not say for definite if a knife was used.
The victim, who is from Blackpool, suffered two stab wounds in his back and one in his side. The gang then ran off.
He was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Det Con Matt Normanton of Lancashire Police said: 'This was a vicious attack on a man who went outside to tell this group to keep the noise down.
'He has sustained some very nasty injuries and will be in hospital for the next week or so.
'Due to his condition we have not been able to take a full statement from him as yet, but it would appear there has been some kind of confrontation during which time he has received these stab wounds.
'We are currently awaiting the results of some forensic inquiries which took place over the weekend which will hopefully give us a better idea of who is responsible.
'We have spoken to some people who saw what went on but generally they have just seen a struggle in the street as it was late at night.
'The group have then all fled and we are hoping to speak to people who may have seen where they went and what happened next.'
Officers have been conducting door-to-door enquiries and are examining CCTV footage from the area.
