Teenager gets life for young father's murder

A teenager was sentenced to life in jail today for the murder of young father Peter Woodhams.

Bradley Tucker, 18, was told at the Old Bailey that he would have to serve a minimum of 25 years.

Tucker, of Butchers Road, Canning Town, east London, was found guilty of Mr Woodhams' murder in March.

The 22-year-old was shot outside his east London home in August last year following a campaign of intimidation by a group of local youths.

Mr Woodhams had been stabbed in the neck and slashed across the face seven months earlier. He continued to be taunted by the youths and died after confronting them over smoking cannabis outside a local supermarket.

Nine police officers face an independent misconduct inquiry after claims that they did not carry out a thorough investigation into the earlier incident.

Mr Woodhams's fiancee Jane Bowden, 24, told the court in a statement that the killing had turned their life into a nightmare.

She said her three-year-old son Sam was convinced his father was a star in heaven and looks at the sky and says: "Look, there is daddy looking down on me."
