The family of an 11-year-old British boy killed in a skiing accident in the Rockies were trying to come to terms with his death.
Sports enthusiast Ben Trichler suffered fatal head injuries when he crashed into a tree on a peak known as "the mellow mountain" because it is considered so safe.
Yesterday it emerged he had been wearing a skateboard helmet and not approved ski protection.
Ben's parents, church warden Grant and wife Jo, were being comforted at the Breckenridge ski resort in Colorado where the accident happened on Thursday.
At their home village of Uffington in Oxfordshire, tributes were paid to their son.
A member of the congregation at St Mary's Church said the youngster, his parents and 15-year-old twin sisters Penny and Megan would all attend services together as a family.
Ann Weeks said: "Ben was very much part of the church family – whenever we needed anything done he would do it. He was the sort of boy you wanted to hug."

Ben was a pupil at Uffington Church of England Primary School until last September when he joined King Alfred's School in Wantage.
On Thursday he was skiing on the blue intermediate trail Bonanza, described as one of the safest at the resort. But authorities say witnesses reported he was travelling "too fast" just before he crashed.
