The dryer still blowing strong after 40 years
06 May 2007
The pink Moulinex deluxe dryer cost £3 and turned out to be worth every penny - and more.

Decorator Ginette, 35, was given the 1960s dryer by grandmother Louisa Emery and still uses it on her brown locks every day
Mrs Emery used it every day for the next 30 years, and it is still going strong in the hands of her granddaughter Ginette Pike.
It has been used around 14,500 times in its 40-year lifespan. Miss Pike, 35, was given it ten years ago by her grandmother, who died in 2000 aged 83.
Mrs Emery had bought the dryer in a shop in Forest Hill, South-East London.
Miss Pike, a decorator from Southampton, prefers the Moulinex to her £40 modern model. "It does the job just as well and is absolutely fantastic to look at," she said.
"I use it every day and hopefully it will keep going for years yet." It has broken down only once since she had it.
"I was told I might as well get a new one as it would cost £20 to repair, but I didn't want to get a new one, I wanted this one."
Despite its longevity, the dryer has some way to go to match the record of the 50-year-old Prestcold fridge owned by Sally Garrod, of Norfolk, as Britain's oldest working household appliance.
