Poorly: Evie Parry broke an arm and leg, and suffered internal injuries
Shoppers looked on in horror as the youngster fell through the gap between two escalators and on to the floor, breaking her left arm and leg, and suffering internal injuries.
She was taken unconscious to the Alder Hey Children's Hospital where her condition was initially described as "critical".
Last night, police said she had improved and was "stable but poorly".
Evie had been shopping with her family at Friday lunchtime when the accident happened.
Onlookers said Evie's mother, who is not thought to have seen her daughter fall, became "uncontrollable" when she realised what had happened and was "screaming and wailing".
Lyndsey Wilcox, a 30-year-old student, said: "I saw the body of a young girl lying on the basement floor. She was not moving.
"People came rushing and started clambering over one another to see what had happened. I felt physically sick.

Horror: The Liverpool Primark store where the accident happened
"Then the mother arrived. She was screaming and shouting."
Merseyside police are investigating, together with the Health and Safety Executive and Liverpool City Council.
Council engineers have tested the escalators but did not find any mechanical fault.
The Primark store reopened on Saturday with the escalators in use.
