Reconstruction: A Crimewatch actor plays the role of the teenage killer
It was filmed in the same pub car park where football-loving Rhys was gunned down - an innocent victim of what is believed to be a feud between teen gangs.
During the filming police sealed off the area around the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth, Liverpool, as a small group of locals gathered.
They saw an actor dressed in a black, hooded top, black trousers and white trainers riding a BMX bike preparing to fire a long-barrelled handgun.
It is thought that the intended victim of the bullet was a 19-year-old member of the so-called "Nogga Dogz" gang from nearby Norris Green which has clashed repeatedly with similar youths from Croxteth - the "Croccy Crew".
Innocent victim: Rhys Jones
Information from witnesses suggests that the 19-year-old ran for cover as the 15-year-old killer's first shot missed its target from about 40 yards.
Sources say the 19-year-old sprinted for cover behind a bus shelter yards from the spot where Rhys was hit.
A second bullet from the brown-handled pistol shattered two windows of a silver BMW, passing through the car and struck Rhys in the neck.
Rhys, a devoted Everton supporter, was on his way home from football practice when he was shot.
The reconstruction will be shown next Wednesday - five weeks after the August 22 killing.
Locals in Croxteth have named the gunman as one of the 17 youngsters who have been arrested by detectives and released on bail.
Neighbourhood gossip also suggests that the shooting was ordered by a prominent 18-year-old member of the "Croccy Crew" because of a dispute over a girl.
It is said to be the third time in 12 months that the intended target had strayed into Croxteth and been shot at.
One Croxteth teenager, who refused to be named, said: "A lot of people round here know who did it and that he has been had in by the bizzies (police) and let out on bail.
"Most people know his name. But no one has seen him round here for weeks.
"They say he's gone away to lie low at a relative's house somewhere else."
