They've already shut a baby clinic

Candy Udwin has seen three GP surgeries in Camden taken over by American firm United Healthcare and fears more "privatisation".

Mrs Udwin, 54, said: "The campaign against the proposals is very strong in this area because changes have already started.

"United Health UK has terminated the contracts of two doctors and shut a baby clinic since it took control of the surgeries this year. We know that if polyclinics are put out to tender there are big, multi-national companies waiting to make money from them.

"We have had demonstrations and a public meeting against these reforms. We got 200 signatures on our petition in one hour on Saturday in Camden. As soon as people find out what the threat may be, they are very concerned.

"I am not against polyclinics in principle, I just fear they will be used to overthrow surgeries and bring in privatisation.

"I don't use the doctor very much but people who do will be badly affected."
