Throughout today floral tributes and a soft toy were left at the scene of the attack in Baxter Road on the Town End Farm estate of Sunderland.

Included were single red roses, carnations and a daisy plant.

A white envelope, with hand drawn hearts from Mr Martin's sister Angela read: "Gentle Jesus up above give my brother a love. He's with his dad who he hardley (sic) knew because he died when he was 5. Now he is in peace. Brent, you were gentle and kind, you would have helped anybody.

"Until we meet again Brent Love you."
