But as Tim Henman set Wimbledon alight with a dazzling victory yesterday, his wife Lucy could not conceal her delight - and leapt out of her seat to cheer him.
The look on her face said it all as she hailed the 32-year-old tennis star's triumph over Spaniard Carlos Moya, who is rated 52 places above him.
Thousands more fans - the 'Henmaniacs' - roared their hero on from outside Centre Court on a jam-packed Henman Hill.
More follows...
Moment of victory: Tim savours his hard-fought success
The former British number one, now ranked 74th in the world, was drawing two sets apiece after the first four sets in the held-over first round match.
However, urged on by the crowd, he remained mentally strong in the final set and eventually battled through to win 13-11.
On sealing the winning point, Henman raised both hands in triumph. Above him in the stands, his wife - a 35-year-old television producer - was ecstatic.

Tim's wife Lucy is delighted with her husband's first round triumph.
Henman's victory, and the pretournament withdrawal of British number one Andy Murray, means he is the now only Briton with a realistic chance of winning the tournament.
He said later: "The support I have had, as I have always had, has been incredible. I have used it to my advantage. Today was another good example of that."
"This place is so special to me. I have had so many experiences here over the years. I always believe that good things are going to happen."
