Tiger Woods and his wife put their differences to one side in the name of Nike
19 February 2010
As Swedish former model Elin Nordegren dropped off their daughter Sam at school, the 29-year-old donned an entire outfit sporting the distinctive logo of one of her husband's major sponsor, Nike.
As the world number one golfer was photographed practising his swing outside their Florida home yesterday, he too wore clothes emblazoned with the famous "swoosh".
This followed the row over his decision to make the announcement of his apology in the middle of the biggest tournament of the year to date, which is sponsored by Accenture.
The business services giant was one of the first companies to dump Woods after the sex scandal broke.
Yesterday former world number one Ernie Els said Woods had been "selfish" in choosing today to make his apology, because it coincided with the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. He said: "I feel sorry for the sponsor. Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Fridays."
The row continued to simmer as Woods broke his three-month silence at the headquarters of the US PGA Tour in Florida.
Before the carefully staged apology at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem confirmed the 34-year-old would not return to golf immediately as he would be going back to the sex addiction clinic where he has already spent six weeks.
In a letter to the PGA Tour policy board, Finchem wrote: "Tiger's therapy called for a week's break at this time during which he has spent a few days with his children and then will make his statement before returning."
The letter also attempted to calm the waters over the timing of the apology.
Mr Finchem said the tour discussed the this with Accenture and "they understand that the PGA Tour was not involved in determining the timing of the statement".
