Toure fury over McShane tackle

Kolo Toure today accused Sunderland youngster Paul McShane of deliberately injuring Alexander Hleb with a reckless tackle.

Arsenal's thrilling 3-2 victory at Emirates Stadium yesterday was marred by McShane's wild lunge on the Belarussian in the last minute.

The 21-year-old Irishman connected with Hleb's groin area with his foot and the momentum generated by the challenge caused his knee to crash into the Arsenal man's head. McShane was shown the red card by referee Rob Styles.

Toure said: "I thought the intention was bad. He didn't get to Hleb and I think sometimes it is better to show the red when somebody makes an intentional foul. The referee did well to send him off. The damage could have been a lot worse."

It was the second weekend in a row that Hleb had been on the receiving end of over-aggressive tactics after being scythed down by Mark Noble's two-footed tackle against West Ham.

"I spoke to him afterwards in the dressing room and I said, 'They want to kill you'," joked Toure. "He is such a great player. Teams want to stop him. But he seems okay."

However, Sunderland's players claimed McShane was the victim of an injustice and Kenwyn Jones, scorer of the visitors' second goal, said: "It wasn't intentional."

Robin van Persie was Arsenal's matchwinner again. The Gunners have won by a single goal three times in the last week - against West Ham, Steaua Bucharest and Sunderland - and on each occasion he has provided the winning strike.

Van Persie's latest contribution was a seventh-minute free-kick which arrowed over Colin Gordon's hand before the goalkeeper could barely move and, then, with Arsenal's nerve under severe examination with 10 minutes to go, the Dutchman swiftly controlled a pass from Walcott to slide home his fourth goal in eight days.

Arsenal returned to the Premier League summit with yesterday's triumph but they were genuinely tested by Keane's never-say-die side.

After Philippe Senderos' mis-hit shot gave the home side a 2- 0 advantage, Ross Wallace clawed one back for the visitors before Jones headed an equaliser.
