John Paul Lyttle, 28, plunged 20 feet from his church-owned flat in Isleworth after apparently slipping from the window ledge.
Mr Lyttle met the men, aged between 18 and 21, for the first time on Sunday night before they returned to the flat.
They told police he had been sitting on the ledge before he accidentally fell at about 4am, landing on a concrete patio.
Mr Lyttle, who was training for the Catholic priesthood, suffered severe head and back injuries. He was taken to hospital where he is fighting for his life today.
Mr Lyttle first entered the St Joseph's seminary in Belfast in 1999. He spent time at the Ards Friary in Co Donegal before moving to London.
He was staying at the Isleworth property owned by Father Ray Lyons, former executive secretary of the National Conference of Catholic Priests.
He and Mr Lyttle's family, who flew from Guernsey on Monday, have been holding a bedside vigil.
A friend said: "They are all at the hospital. He is not improving, he's getting worse.
"He had been living in the house for a while. He was very seriously injured. I don't know why he fell."
Forensic science officers have been carrying out tests at the building.
Detective Inspector Alan Holford said they were treating the fall as "unexplained" and it appeared to be an accident.
