Trust loses personal details of hospital patients

A HOSPITAL has launched an investigation after letters containing detailed personal information about diabetes patients went missing.

The documents contained patients' names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, NHS numbers and history of appointments. North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust sent out 122 of the letters to GPs, but one arrived at the wrong address and 28 are still unaccounted for.

The hospital trust has classed the event as a "serious untoward incident" and is conducting an internal investigation to find out what went wrong. Chief executive Clare Panniker said: "I am personally taking every step possible to rectify the situation."
