Stroke: Carol Barnes died on 8 March

The former newsreader, who had a 30-year career on TV, died on March 8 aged 63, days after suffering a stroke.

An order of service read: "She was in her prime; happy, bubbly and optimistic as she always was, and for this at least we are thankful.

"Her honest and caring way will be greatly missed by many, but for some the world will never be the same again."

MP and former Government Minister Mr MacShane spoke of the loss of their daughter Clare in a skydiving accident in 2004.

He told the service that Carol did not become a recluse but embraced life.

He also said: "It was the niceness of Carol that we all loved."
