I felt lucky so I bought a ticket, says £45m Euro lottery winner
09 February 2012
A young couple who are planning to marry were today revealed as the winners of a £45 million lottery jackpot.
Cassey Carrington and Matt Topham, both 22, from Stapleford in Nottingham, won the rollover EuroMillions prize after she bought a ticket online for the first time.
Ms Carrington, who works as supervisor at an Iceland supermarket, said: "I did have a feeling I was going to win. The store where I work had won an incentive for delivering excellent sales. We had been presented with £10,000 which was shared between staff. After that I just felt like it was my lucky day and decided to get a EuroMillions ticket.
"I got home and set up an account online. I have only played the lottery about half a dozen times, when I am feeling lucky, and had already won £10 twice. I put this win all down to my lucky day last Friday."
The couple's numbers were drawn on Tuesday after Mr Topham's computer and their washing machine broke down within minutes of each other.
Mr Topham, a painter and decorator, said: "We were looking at getting parts and how much they'd cost rather than getting someone to mend them. We have been working hard to save up for our wedding and mending the washing machine wasn't in the budget. We were sat in bed when Cassey decided to check her ticket."
Ms Carrington said: "The numbers were there, the same as ours and we kept checking them off one by one."
The couple were finalising their wedding plans for this September and now plan to travel to China, America and Monaco for the Grand Prix.
Ms Carrington said: "I had made the invitations and was starting to work on the centre pieces, all to save money. We can now get a big fireworks display and some entertainment in the evening. It will be our dream day.
She added: "My dad is a big Porsche fan and when I was a little girl I always said to him that I would buy him one, one day. He will now get his dream car."
