‘Uncool’ Carla to wind up her musical career

Against all expectations, she did not receive a single nomination at the Paris equivalent of the Brit awards at the weekend.
Her CD sales are also plunging and she has been forced to cancel her live tours because of her day job as First Lady of France. The 41-year-old's marriage to the conservative and "uncool" President Nicolas Sarkozy, 54, is being blamed.
After launching her third album, Bruni thought she would sweep the board at the prestigious Victories of Music awards. Her wedding, after a whirlwind romance of just 80 days, meant free publicity for Comme si de rien n'était (As If Nothing Happened) but it struggled to sell more than 85,000 copies last year.
Other internationally famous French female singers were honoured, including Vanessa Paradis, whose best known hit Joe Le Taxi was in 1987. A source at the Victories said: Buying a Carla CD became very uncool after she married Mr Sarkozy, especially when she started dedicating her love songs to him.
"The snubs and humiliations have convinced Carla that the end of her music career is in sight, and that she should be looking for another hobby."
