The magnified bird appeared behind Channel 9 newsreader Peter Hitchener's head while he was presenting the 6pm news in Melbourne.
As the huge bird appeared Mr Hitchener barely flinched and continued to read the news as if nothing was wrong.
The seagull walked off screen before reappearing to the delight of thousands watching at home.
Mr Hitchener said: "I was reading away, and it was a serious story, and I suddenly thought, 'Oh my gosh that seagull's back again', because we had bit of a problem last night."
He added "About 50 seconds to 6 o'clock this seagull arrived and started pecking at the camera and it had the beadiest huge eyes you've ever seen in your life."
