Valley wobble will not derail Pardew

Charlton's promotion challenge is wobbling but Alan Pardew's position as manager is rock solid.

Defeat against their bitter rivals Crystal Palace tonight, coupled with a win for Ipswich over Watford tomorrow, would see Pardew's team drop out of the Championship play-off places. With captain Andy Reid also sold to Sunderland for £4million last month, these are tricky times for Charlton yet their fans remain firmly behind Pardew, 46.

Player-coach Chris Powell said: "We had a low point when we lost at Scunthorpe last weekend but Alan has been through these things before, and he knows what it takes to overcome them.

"He is a manager I admire, and he will know how to get us back into a winning position again over the next few weeks."

"Some people will cry for change, but last season showed that it does not suit us and we paid a high price."
