Van Persie's return is put on hold

The Arsenal coach was hoping the Dutch striker would be fit to return for the Christmas programme and revive title hopes dented by seven dropped points in the last three away matches.
But Van Persie is troubled by a muscle injury that has kept him out of Premier League action since October when he was the club's leading marksman with seven goals from 11 first-team starts.
The earliest Van Persie could now return to action is the New Year Day's clash with West Ham at Emirates Stadium.
The fitness of William Gallas is also of concern after yesterday's goalless draw at Portsmouth. The defender finished the match with a toe injury that could also keep him out of the game at Everton. "He got a kick on the foot and we're not sure how bad he is," said Wenger.
Alexandre Song, who was on the bench yesterday, or Philippe Senderos will deputise if Gallas is ruled out. Wenger's only other injury worry concerns Theo Walcott, who has a knee problem. Denilson will miss the trip to Everton as he is suspended.
