Venables' name in frame for Fulham hot-seat

Former player John Collins had been viewed as the front-runner to succeed Lawrie Sanchez, but it is understood that senior Fulham figures fear the former Hibbs boss lacks the experience to steer the club out of relegation trouble.
That is one plus point in the recently departed England No2's favour - he steered Middlesbrough to safety from a similar position in 2001.
An option for Fulham could be to appoint Venables alongside Collins in a partnership similar to the one he enjoyed with Bryan Robson at the Riverside.
First-team coach Ray Lewington, who is in temporary charge of the team, is highly regarded at the club and looks certain to remain in a senior coaching role.
Already ruled out are former Tottenham manager Martin Jol and Chris Coleman, who has been tipped in some quarters to return to Craven Cottage.
