Victoria line to close early for 10-month track upgrade work

22 January 2008
From Monday 4 February, the Tube line will be closed after 9.54pm from Monday to Thursday.
There will also be a series of full and partial closures at weekends.
The closures will allow work to upgrade the track for a new fleet of trains on the line, which runs between Brixton and Walthamstow Central. Similar restrictions were put in place for four months last year.
Tube bosses say the alternative would have been to completely close the line, which is used by almost 600,000 passengers a day, for weeks at a time, a move ruled out by the Mayor.
London Underground said: "Great care is being taken to cause the least possible disruption for passengers."
The new trains, which will begin coming into service late this year, will feature CCTV in carriages, wheelchair access, better ventilation and improved information systems. A smoother, comfortable and more frequent service is also promised.
Two special bus services will operate as follows:
Between Finsbury Park and Walthamstow Central, calling at all intermediate Victoria line stations.
This service will also stop at Manor House for Piccadilly line connections.
Between Victoria and Brixton, calling at Pimlico, Vauxhall, Stockwell.
The following national rail services will also accept Tube tickets:
Liverpool Street to and from Walthamstow Central, Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters (National Express East Anglia).
Victoria to and from Herne Bay via Brixton (Southeastern).
Elephant & Castle to and from Herne Hill (First Capital Connect)
Waterloo to and from Vauxhall (South West Trains).
