Several words referring to the environment such as carbon footprint, green tax, electrosmog (electro-magnetic fields emitted by computers and mobiles) and eco-village appear in the 11th edition. Social networking, Wags and nail bars also appear in the revised dictionary. The war on terror provides the words blueon-blue, extraordinary rendition and watch list.

Pad thai, comfort food, and dashi (a clear stock flavoured with kelp) are also included.

Dictionary editor-in-chief Mary O'Neill said: "The words we added to this 11th edition paint a vivid picture of current interests and concerns."
