Warnock's cash hopes

Neil Warnock believes he will get strong financial backing from Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan if he revives their promotion prospects.

The former Sheffield United boss is today set to be confirmed as Peter Taylor's successor at Selhurst Park today on a three-year deal.

He plans to move his family to the South East and is confident he can achieve the seventh promotion of his managerial career.

Warnock is expected to bring in former England international Keith Curle as his assistant and needs to make an immediate impact because of Palace's poor early-season form.

The 58-year-old's notoriously outspoken style means there are already fears he could clash with Jordan, who is also a forthright personality.

But the millionaire chairman said: "Ultimately I don't think there's anything wrong with straight-talking people. I think there's something wrong with people who don't talk straight."

Warnock will be Jordan's eighth manager in seven years but he confessed he had no problems in sacking Taylor on Monday.

He said of the meeting: "It went well for me. I'm not so sure for Pete.

"What I usually say to someone I'm firing is 'I don't know how we're going to get along without you, but as of Monday, we're going to try.'

"But with Peter I just said, 'You know, it's not going the right way, so you're going that way.'"
