We don't need panic signings, says Gallas

William Gallas has told his Arsenal bosses to save their money and not sign anyone in this month's transfer window despite losing three key players to the African Nations Cup.

A comfortable 2-0 win over London rivals West Ham kept Arsenal two points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table and captain Gallas insisted today there is no need for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to strengthen the squad.

Arsenal will lose the Ivory Coast pairing of Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue, as well as Alexander Song (Cameroon), for up to a month after next Sunday's FA Cup third round tie against Burnley.

"I don't really expect us to sign anyone," said Gallas. "I think everything is fine. Perhaps if one player does leave then we have to buy but if that is not the case then I think everything is okay as we are.

"Kolo is very important to the squad and yes we will miss him, but I will tell you by how much in another couple of weeks."

Wenger could be prepared to part with unhappy midfielder Lassana Diarra, signed from Chelsea for £2million last summer, while two other players, Gilberto Silva and Abou Diaby, are both said to be concerned about their limited opportunities.

Gallas added: "We are top of the League and you would not understand why anyone would want to leave, but sometimes, when you are at a big club, it is not easy because you don't play many games.

"It is then you have to be patient though because the season is very long."

Goals from Eduardo, after 70 seconds, and Emmanuel Adebayor, in the 22nd minute, were good enough to ensure three points for Arsenal to keep them in the lead of the title race and the Arsenal skipper added: "We are very focused about what we have to do.

"It's now we have to be very strong because Manchester United and Chelsea will want to come back at us.

"This is the time when we have to show everyone how strong we are, how badly we want to win.

"I spoke to the players before the West Ham game and I told them that it is not always easy to win how we would like.

"We showed against West Ham just how much we wanted to win the game and if we show that same attitude in the future, then I believe everything will be fine."
