We need to be great at Munster, says Dallaglio

Lawrence Dallaglio believes London Wasps will have to "win a Test match" against Munster tomorrow if they are to clinch a place in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

Wasps, the defending champions, must triumph at Thomond Park - something only Leicester have achieved in the competition - to be sure of progressing but their captain is relishing the challenge.

Dallaglio's men have faced similar daunting matches before and coming out on top in Limerick would rank alongside their greatest achievements.

The former England No8 said: "This is a Test match in all but name because of the number of experienced internationals in both teams. For those players who have yet to make it into the Test arena, this is going to give them a very good idea of what competing at the highest level is all about."

But the Wasps captain is less happy about the circumstances surrounding the match as he revealed the club's former chief executive swapped the games with Munster around, leaving Wasps to travel to Ireland for the final fixture in Pool 5 rather than the first.

"Evidently, the switch was made at Wasps' request, so all we can do is get on with it," Dallaglio said. "Munster are going to come out with all guns blazing. We will play with skill, aggression and enthusiasm."

Wasps won that opening game at home to Munster 24-23 and Eoin Reddan, the Ireland scrum-half who made two Heineken Cup appearances for the Irish province before joining Wasps, is well aware of the daunting atmosphere his team-mates will face.

"The Munster fans make quite a din, so it's essential to keep your head and be clinical," said Reddan, a try scorer in Wasps' 25-9 Heineken Cup Final triumph over Leicester last May.

"While it is in our hands as the group leaders it will be a huge ask. We will just go out and try to get the win."

Munster flanker Alan Quinlan recognises the fact that Leicester's win at Thomond Park last season has given visiting teams fresh hope.

He said: "I am sure Wasps will be looking at Leicester's victory on our ground last year for inspiration.

They're a quality side and this is an unbelievably hard group.

"But at the start of the season, if you'd told us we'd be looking at qualification needing a home win in the last round, we'd have taken that."

Saracens can strike the first blow for London rugby in the quarter-final race tonight by denying Glasgow the bonus-point win that could ruin the club's bid for a home tie.

Sarries already have 20 points and will appear in the last eight even if they lose, as long as they collect a bonus point.

They have named the same side that beat Biarritz 45-16 last weekend and Alan Gaffney, their director of rugby, said: "This will be our fifth meeting with Glasgow in just over a year, so we've got to know each other well.

"There has never been more than one score in it so we're under no illusions as to how difficult the game will be."

A bonus-point win at Treviso will ensure a home tie for London Irish, while a victory without scoring four tries would still be good enough to get them into the last eight because they will be one of the best second-placed teams if Perpignan top Pool 1.
