We’ll terrorise France over its ban on veils, says Osama Bin Laden

Osama bin Laden today threatened further terror attacks on France in retaliation for the country's ban on wearing the veil in public and other alleged "injustices" towards Muslims.

In an audio recording released to the Al Jazeera television channel, the al Qaeda leader also accused France of intervening "in the affairs of Muslims in north and west Africa".

He said the interference was to blame for the kidnapping of five French citizens in Niger last month by al Qaeda's North African wing and warned that further abductions would follow unless Nicolas Sarkozy's government changed its approach. The hostages are reportedly being held in a mountainous region of north-western Mali.

He said: "If you unjustly thought that it is your right to prevent free Muslim women from wearing the face veil, is it not our right to expel your invading men and cut their necks?"

On Afghanistan, he added: "The equation is very clear and simple: as you kill, you will be killed; as you take others hostages, you will be taken hostages; as you waste our security we will waste your security."
